Myatt’s will play host to a Christmas feast from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday 18th December organised by Brixton People’s Kitchen. Everyone is welcome, and if you donate food the feast is free.

The organisers say:

“Sharing food with strangers is one of the nicest ways to spread happiness. And if the food is free, and has been saved from going to waste, it makes it even tastier!

Inspired and supported by the People’s Kitchen (Passing Clouds, Dalston, thepeopleskitchen.org), Brixton People’s Kitchen collects food surplus from local shops and markets, invites local people to cook together, and welcomes everyone to enjoy a delicious meal with each other.

We are starting out this month, so come down to Myatt’s, sample some tasty food, and add your ideas to the joyful stew we are cooking.

WAYS YOU CAN HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN:

1 Donate food: any surplus food from local houses, gardens, parks and businesses will be welcome. Any fruits, vegetables, salads and herbs, canned and dried foods, pulses and grains that you might have available will be welcome.

2 Cook: if you can chop, pick, stir, peel and wash, grate, serve or smile, you’re in!

3. Eat: join the communal table and make new friends. Food will be served up on a donations basis. Put what you can or will into the pot. If you have donated food, fee free to eat for free!

If you want to donate food or volunteer, get in touch: ring or text: 07810 2088879, email brixtonfoodwaste@gmail.com

RETIRED PERSONS’ CHRISTMAS LUNCH THIS FRIDAY

Everyone is welcome to enjoy a Christmas lunch in the park depot on Friday 16th December 1-2.30pm. We suggest a £2 donation for this special meal.

We will be cooking and preparing the meal at the park depot kitchen between 10.30-1pm. Please contact rebeccamaddox@myattsfieldspark.info if you would like to come and help with this or if you can donate some mince pies or any other food for the event.

FAMILY COOK AND EAT BREAKFAST CLUB

Parents and under-fives children are invited to cook and eat together at our family cook and eat breakfast club every Friday from 9am to10.30am in the Mulberry Centre.

FOOD HEROES

Everyone is invited to come along and help prepare Caribbean food with Suneil (the meal will include fish so not vegan this time!) on Saturday 10th December during our Food Heroes session, which will run in the depot meeting room from 10.30am to 1pm.

Our Food Heroes programme means we employ local people to teach other local people about the food they know and love.

The family cook and eat, food heroes and retired people’s lunch club are all funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme and are free to all participants.

The sessions will close for the Christmas period this weekend and start again on 5th January 2012.

We are pleased to announce that Myatt’s Fields Park Project has a new chair after Marjorie Landels was elected by the committee this month.

The group’s new secretary is Rebecca Kadritzke, who also takes responsibility for developments affecting children and families.

Marjorie is also chair of the events committee, and Amanda Purdie heads up the food group. The treasurer post is being held open while the group advertises externally.

Come along to the depot on Monday from 2.30pm to 3pm and help us spread the good news about our food projects.

Our senior lunch club, family cook and eat breakfasts and food hero sessions are all funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme.  A representative of the team from Local Food will be visiting Myatt’s on Monday 5th December from 2.30pm.

Everyone who takes part in these activities is welcome to come along and meet her from 2.30pm to 3pm, sharing your experiences of these activities. Tea and cake will be available for all comers.

Are you a retired accountant who has time on your hands and want to help your local community? Or a trainee or student who wants to get experience of running the finances of a growing community organisation?

Myatt’s Fields Park Project, which runs the food, greenhouse and events programme in the park, wants to make sure its financial systems are as efficient and robust as possible, and so is looking for someone who can bring expertise and experience to the role of treasurer.

Please see attached for a job description (this is a voluntary post) and person specification. If you are interested, contact me at this address.
