WILDLIFE PLANTING DAY

Everyone is welcome to join us for a planting day in the wildlife area from 11am to 2pm on Sunday 29th April.

We will be planting wild flowers in the wooded area which runs alongside the road. This was recently upgraded by cutting back bushes and trees and creating a path throughout the area.

Funding for the new plants is provided by Western Riverside Environmental Fund.

If you would like to take part, just turn up on the day. This activity is suitable for all ages.

FOOD SESSIONS AT THE PARK

FOOD HEROES

Come along and learn how to make home made pizzas during our Food Heroes session from 10.30am to 1pm in the park depot meeting room on Saturday 28th April.

This programme gives local people the chance to teach other people about the food they know and love. We pay local people £40 per session and give an allowance for food. If you are interested in becoming a food hero please contact Rebecca Maddox by email.

FAMILY COOK AND EAT BREAKFAST CLUB

We will be making green eggs and ham at the family cook and eat breakfast club next Friday 4th May, which takes place in the Mulberry Centre from 9am to 10.30am.

Parents and children cook and eat together during these sessions, which are free.

RETIRED PEOPLE'S LUNCH CLUB

Retired people are welcome to come and eat lunch made with vegetables and fruit from the greenhouse at the depot from noon each Friday.

The family cook and eat, food heroes and retired people’s lunch club are all funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme and are free to all participants.

CAFÉ OPENING TIMES

The café will be open from 10.30am to 5.30pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday throughout the summer.

We will be installing a cooker in the next couple of weeks and launching a new menu of freshly cooked, locally sourced (our greenhouse!) food.

Also do say hello to Yasmin and Monique (our new Cafe staff members) in the Little Cat Cafe this weekend, where they have homemade soup, bread and delicious cakes. Watch this space as they are developing a fantastic new range of freshly made food using our greenhouse produce.

OPEN DAY AT GREENHOUSE AND FREE LUNCH

Join us in the greenhouse for a gardening session and free lunch during our open greenhouse day on Sunday 6th May 2012.

We’ll be clearing and planting at the greenhouse from 11.30am to 2pm, with a free lunch at 1pm. If anyone would like to help cook, please turn up at 11am.

Support for gardening activities will be provided by Streetscape, who train apprentices for horticultural work, and are currently based at the park.

There will also be a plant sale from 11.30am so come along and buy reasonably priced vegetable plants that you can grow at home.

We are pleased to announce that Myatt’s Fields Park Project has a new chair after Marjorie Landels was elected by the committee this month.

The group’s new secretary is Rebecca Kadritzke, who also takes responsibility for developments affecting children and families.

Marjorie is also chair of the events committee, and Amanda Purdie heads up the food group. The treasurer post is being held open while the group advertises externally.

Are you a retired accountant who has time on your hands and want to help your local community? Or a trainee or student who wants to get experience of running the finances of a growing community organisation?

Myatt’s Fields Park Project, which runs the food, greenhouse and events programme in the park, wants to make sure its financial systems are as efficient and robust as possible, and so is looking for someone who can bring expertise and experience to the role of treasurer.

Please see attached for a job description (this is a voluntary post) and person specification. If you are interested, contact me at this address.
