BARBEQUE AT THE BANDSTAND SATURDAY 19TH MAY

 

We’ll be holding our first barbeque of the year at the café from 1pm on Saturday, with chicken and rice and peas.

 

We would very much appreciate any volunteer help you can give us on Saturday, or any cakes baked for the café.

 

The café will be open as usual from 10.30am to 5.30pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday throughout the summer.

 

FOOD SESSIONS AT THE PARK

 

FOOD HEROES

 

Come along and learn how to make Indian biriyani (will contain meat) during our Food Heroes session from 10.30am to 1pm in the park depot meeting room on Saturday 19th May.

 

This programme gives local people the chance to teach other people about the food they know and love. We pay local people £40 per session for leading the session and give an allowance for food. FAMILY COOK AND EAT BREAKFAST CLUB

 

We will be making oat and raison cookies at the family cook and eat breakfast club this Friday 11th May, which takes place in the Mulberry Centre from 9am to 10.30am.

 

Parents and children cook and eat together during these sessions, which are free.

 

RETIRED PEOPLE'S LUNCH CLUB

 

Retired people are welcome to come and eat lunch made with vegetables and fruit from the greenhouse at the depot from noon each Friday.

For Food Revolution Day, The Brixton People's Kitchen and Myatt's Fields Park Food Project will be making salads from surplus food and vegetables grown in the community greenhouses. Join us from 11am in front of the Little Cat Café for some happy chopping, grating and seasoning!

We will also have a Recipe Exchange stall, to launch a project aimed at collecting local recipes and creating an evolving community cookbook, based on the knowledge and creativity of local people. So be prepared to share your tasty memories!

Food will be free for volunteers, and given away in exchange of a recipe or some cash donation for everyone else.

THISTLES!

 

Thistles are getting a grip on the wildlife area and urgently need to be removed so we’d really appreciate any help from park users.

 

If you would like to help getting rid of them, please come along from 11am on Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday any week and see Kasia who will provide you with gloves and some basic instructions.

HORTICULTURAL TASTER DAYS

 

If you are young and unemployed, Streetscape may be just the chance you are looking for.

 

They are a landscape gardening company that specialises in providing apprenticeships for 18-25 year olds who are long-term unemployed.

 

They invite everyone to come along to a taster day on 17th May 2012 at Myatt’s Fields Park to get a feel of what landscaping is all about and put themselves forward as a candidate for an apprenticeship starting in June 2012. See the leaflet.

Local people and organisations are invited to book their stalls for Myatt’s Fields Park fair, which will be held from 1pm to 5pm on June 2nd 2012.

 

The fair will celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a Big Lunch and performance by a big band on the bandstand from 1pm to 3pm. There will then be dancing with a jazz band from 3pm to 5pm.

 

There will also be a small fairground and children’s entertainment, as well as a range of community stalls.

OPEN DAY AT GREENHOUSE AND FREE LUNCH

 

Join us in the greenhouse for a gardening session and free lunch during our open greenhouse day on Sunday 6th May 2012.

 

We’ll be planting herbs and lettuce in the greenhouse from 11.30am to 2pm, with a free lunch (vegetarian Indian food including beetroot and cabbage grown on site) at 1pm. If anyone would like to help cook, please turn up at 11am.

 

Support for gardening activities will be provided by Streetscape, who train apprentices for horticultural work, and are currently based at the park.

 

There will also be a plant sale so come along and buy reasonably priced vegetable plants that you can grow at home.

SPORTS MEETING

Myatt’s Fields Park Project and Lambeth Parks would like to invite you to an OPEN MEETING to talk about current use of our football pitch, tennis courts and basketball court.

 The meeting will be held in the Park Depot (opposite public toilets) on Thursday 10th May 5.30 – 6.30 pm.

Please join us if you want to discuss any issue regarding sport facilities of Myatt’sFields Park.

WILDLIFE PLANTING DAY

 
Everyone is welcome to join us for a planting day in the wildlife area from 11am to 2pm on Sunday 29th April.

 

We will be planting wild flowers in the wooded area which runs alongside the road. This was recently upgraded by cutting back bushes and trees and creating a path throughout the area.

 

Funding for the new plants is provided by Western Riverside Environmental Fund.

 

If you would like to take part, just turn up on the day. This activity is suitable for all ages.

FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

We will hold a football tournament and barbeque to celebrate the new football pitch at Myatt’s from 10am on Sunday 22nd April 2012.
 
The day will include competitions for under 9s, under 12s, under 16s, and adults. Play will be 15 minutes each way, all teams to be seven aside.
 
Anyone who can put a seven aside team together is welcome especially school teams, youth clubs and groups (you must have 10 players registered for subs etc).
 
Please register teams with Myatt’s park manager, Kasia Olszewska (kolszewska@lambeth.gov.uk).
