The Little Cat Café
CAFE WINTER OPENING HOURS
The Little Cat Café will be open from 10.30am to 4pm on Fridays, Saturdays,
Sundays and Mondays throughout the winter (November to February).
We will be selling a fresh daily soup made using vegetables from
the greenhouse, as well as rolls and sandwiches, cakes, hot and cold drinks.
The café is located near the bandstand and provides a focal point for the
community to get together over a nice up of tea, coffee, sandwiches, salads,
cake and ice cream. Our baristas are able to turn out perfect lattes, cappuccinos and
hot chocolate (we offer de-caf and soya milk too.) Salad is freshly picked from the
greenhouses, all our cakes are lovingly baked by local people and the bread is fresh
every day.
One O’clock Club users special offer :
Buy a luxury hot chocolate with whipped cream and get a child’s hot chocolate free!

How we built up the business
2009 The café was run by volunteers at weekends
2010 The café was run with paid staff from July thanks to the Future Jobs
Fund. It opened five days a week, three hours a day
2011 The café opens 4 days a week with staff funded by the Walcot foundation
2012 We are currently reviewing the café business plan and café staff will be
employed by MFPPG from April.
See below for our Business Plan/Vision for the café....
How do I get involved?
Baking for our café
Local people bake for our café. We pay £5 for small cake/12 cup cakes £7.50 for a
large fruit cake or other large cake. We provide food hygiene training meaning you
don't need to have a home inspection.
Volunteering in the café
We really appreciate an extra pair of hands from time to time, especially when we
have special events. You can help with anything from setting up and clearing away to
making teas and coffees and serving customers. It’s a fun way to meet people in the
community and pick up some new skills.
Join our food group
Help us plan the development of the business and improve the links between all the
growing and food projects in the park.
Work experience placements
From April 2011 we have offered eight week work experience placements to people
living in Lambeth on low incomes. These placements are for 25 hours a week and
include Barista (coffee making) and
food hygiene training.
Employment
Food manager: thanks to the Big Lottery’s Local Food Fund, we’ve employed a
Food Manager to develop the café business and run a range of community food
projects.
Café staff: Thanks to the Walcot Foundation, we employ two people in the café
four days a week
Contact our food manager Rebecca Maddox by email if you
are interested in any of the above.
