Lambeth Tigers football club
Lambeth Tigers is a Saturday youth football club. Originally formed in 1995, David Marriott and Jamahl Jarrett reformed the Tigers in 2010 to give local children an opportunity to participate in sport. Children are taught to think on and off the ball, dominate possession and score as many goals as possible. For more information about the club, visit Lambeth Tigers website.
Footballer Jadon Sancho stars in the story behind our new pitch
Sancho, an England player who comes from Kennington, and Nike are on a mission to create safe play spaces in South East London. They got in touch with Lambeth Tigers with an offer to improve facilities in our neighbourhood: that partnership led to the new "Jadon Sancho" pitch completed in September 2019.
"I hope this pitch can provide a safe place for the kids to play, to keep them away from some of the distractions that surround them and inspire them to achieve their dreams." Jadon Sancho, October 2019.
In late September, Nike organised a tournament to celebrate the launch of the new football pitch. Nearly 200 players from Lambeth Tigers and their friends attended.
Just a few days later, England International Jadon Sancho came to the park (where he used to train) to surprise the kids and see the new pitch:
"Amazing to be back...There’s something special in South East London. Without it my journey wouldn’t have been the same and I definitely wouldn’t be the player that I am today...It’s an incredible feeling to be able to give back to the community."
