Discovering the Beauty of Nature at Myatt's Fields Park...
Our amazing Horticulture Manager, Tony, has a passion for exploring and showcasing the incredible variety of plants that call our park home. This month, Tony has been busy uncovering some truly special finds, and we’re excited to share one of them with you: the vibrant Euryops chrysanthemoides, or African Daisy Bush!
Acanthus Senni
Commonly found in Ethiopian mountains! Once too tender for our climate, it now blooms beautifully from September, thanks to warming temperatures. You’ll find it near the Ginkgo tree by the Calais St Gates. Watch out for those spiny leaves (Ethiopian farmers use them to protect crops!), but don't miss the striking red flowers and bold, fierce foliage.
African Daisy Bush
This cheerful plant hails from Southern Africa and brings a pop of sunshine to autumn and winter gardens with its bright yellow blooms. Even though it's a bit fussy about soil conditions and prefers a cozy spot, it's totally worth it for the joyful display that can lift your spirits when the days get shorter. Fun fact: the resin it produces was once valued for its medicinal uses and even for preserving leather! Nature really knows how to multitask.
Tony’s dedication to nurturing our park’s botanical diversity not only keeps our gardens thriving but also ensures that every visitor can experience the joy of nature in all its forms.
