FOOD HEROES PASSOVER LUNCH

Everyone is invited to come along to the depot on Saturday for a traditional Passover lunch on Saturday 31st March. The meal will include story telling and participation based around the biblical Passover story as an Easter celebration event.

This event is part of our Food Heroes session, and will run in the depot meeting room from 10.30am to 1pm.

Our Food Heroes programme means we employ local people to teach other local people about the food they know and love. Everyone cooks together and eats the food afterwards.

There will be no Food Heroes session on 7th or 14th April.

A THANK YOU TO SAXA AND JOSH

We are inviting local people to come along and say a big thank you to Saxa and Josh for all their hard work in the café over the past two years.

The small party will take place outside the café from 3pm to 5pm on 31st March and will include free cake for all comers.

If anyone would like to contribute to their leaving gifts (including ideas!) please drop off donations at the Old Depot (next to the greenhouse) or give us donations during the afternoon. There will also be a card to sign. If Rebecca, Kasia or Victoria are in at the depot during the week, donations can be left with them, or they can be dropped into the letter box on the side of the depot.

We welcome donations of cake for the party. Please email me to say if you can help.

CAFÉ OPENING AND CLOSING: EASTER 2012-03-27

Please note that the café will close on Monday 2nd April and will be closed over the Easter weekend (6th to 9th April).

The café will open again on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th April when we will be trialling new staff.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

INDOOR SHELTER FOR LITTLE CAT CAFÉ

If you would like an indoor shelter for the café in Myatt’s, please come along to the café on Monday at 1pm and give us your support.

We have applied to the Western Riverside Environmental Fund for money to build a new shelter for the café – something requested by a large number of people in our recent survey.

No firm plans for the shelter exist at the moment but the principles are that it would be “demountable” (ie could be taken apart easily) and built in the corner of the wildlife area next to the café. Its position would mean that it would also act as an observatory for the wildlife area.

Any heating for the shelter would be as sustainable as possible and could come from a wood burning oven (also used to cook for the café). It would be designed so local people can help build it over a weekend, and with sensitivity to its beautiful setting.

The funder will want to know that this is something local people do want, and so your support will be very welcome.

OPEN DAY AT GREENHOUSE AND FREE LUNCH

Join us in the greenhouse for a gardening session and free lunch during our open greenhouse day on 1st April 2012.

We’ll be clearing and planting at the greenhouse from 11.30am to 2pm, with a free lunch provided by our Food Heroes programme at 1pm. If anyone would like to help cook, please turn up at 11am.

Support for gardening activities will be provided by Streetscape, who train apprentices for horticultural work, and are currently based at the park.

There will also be a plant sale from 11.30am so come along and buy reasonably priced vegetable plants that you can grow at home.

FOOD SESSIONS AT THE PARK:

FAMILY COOK AND EAT BREAKFAST CLUB

Parents and under-fives children are invited to cook and eat together at our family cook and eat breakfast club every Friday from 9am to10.30am in the Mulberry Centre.

RETIRED PEOPLE'S LUNCH CLUB

All retired people are invited to enjoy a freshly cooked lunch every Friday at the depot meeting room from noon to 2pm. Vegetables and fruit growing in the greenhouse will be used whenever possible in the meals that are prepared.

FOOD HEROES

Everyone is invited to come along on Saturday 24th March and learn how to make pies during our Food Heroes session, which will run in the depot meeting room from 10.30am to 1pm.

Our Food Heroes programme means we employ local people to teach other local people about the food they know and love. Everyone cooks together and eats the food afterwards.

LIBRARY CONSULTATION
Lambeth Council is consulting local people about the future of the Minet Library today (Friday 22nd March) from 10am to noon, and also on Monday 26th March, from 7pm to 9pm.  There are consultation documents available in the Library to complete.
The council has to make cuts to library services, and is consulting people about how these cuts should be divided between the different libraries.  The closing date for the Libraries Consultation is the 20th April.
Full detail can be seen on the website:
http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/Services/CouncilDemocracy/Consultations/ACSConsultations/LibrariesConsultation.htm
Myatt’s Fields Park Project is in the process of forming a new Minet Hub including the park, Minet Library, Longfield Hall and the new Remakery (re-use centre).
This has the aim of saving the library, supporting the enhancement of Longfield Hall, sustaining the regeneration of Myatt’s Fields Park, and supporting the development of the new Remakery.

We’ve put our initial thoughts down in a one-page document attached here. We have also drawn up a two page proposal for developing the Minet Library which is also attached. We will be jointly making a response to the consultation in the next week so please do feedback any comments on either of these proposals.

MINET CONSERVATION MEETING

The Minet Conservation Association is holding an Extraordinary General Meeting from 7pm on Tuesday 27th March in Longfield Hall.
Since 1979 the Minet Conservation Association has focussed on planning developments, local traffic planning, the future of the library, tackling crime, organising events and the local fair.
They are now consulting people about what their role should be in the future and everyone is welcome to attend their meeting

FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
We will hold a football tournament and barbeque to celebrate the new football pitch at Myatt’s from 10am on Sunday 22nd April 2012.

The day will include competitions for under 9s, under 12s, under 16s, and adults. Play will be 15 minutes each way, all teams to be seven aside.

Anyone who can put a seven aside team together is welcome especially school teams, youth clubs and groups (you must have 10 players registered for subs etc).

Please register teams with Myatt’s park manager, Kasia Olszewska (kolszewska@lambeth.gov.uk). Poster attached.

MYATT’S FIELDS PARK FAIR 2ND JUNE

Local people and organisations are invited to book their stalls for Myatt’s Fields Park fair, which will be held on June 2nd 2012.

The fair will celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a Big Lunch and performance by a big band on the bandstand from 1pm to 3pm. There will then be dancing with a jazz band from 3pm to 5pm.

There will also be a small fairground and children’s entertainment, as well as a range of community stalls.

If you would like to book a stall, please stand by! The form will follow.

NaturActive Under 5s

Children will have the opportunity to experience, enjoy and learn about nature during sessions at the Mulberry Centre and in the park on Mondays from 10.30am to noon.
