We will be bottling tomatoes from the greenhouse and juicing apples, pears and plums harvested around the park during a session in the depot kitchen from 2pm on 24th August 2011.
Dozens of tomatoes are ripening at the greenhouse and we will be learning techniques for preserving them so they can be used during the winter months. The London Orchard Project, which helped us gather fruit from gardens around the park last Saturday, will come along to juice and bottle fruit during the session too. Everyone and all ages are welcome to take part, learn new skills and enjoy freshly squeezed juice. This weekend we would like to invite everyone to view paintings and drawings of Colombian artist Mauricio Paez. Mauricio’s exhibition, Ode to the Nature, will be open in the Roundhouse on Saturday 13th from morning hours until 3pm with private viewing taking place afterwards and will re-open on Sunday 14th for all day. If you are interested in Mauricio’s artwork, please visit his website for more information: http://www.mauriciopaez.com/
Play Out Lambeth, a borough wide play ranger service in parks and housing estates, brings laughter and joy to Myatt’s Fields Park. Play Out is a Woodcraft Folk project that aims to encourage children and young people to enjoy the benefits of playing out in a safe environment, and to make our local green spaces more accessible to the community through co-operative play, arts and crafts and creative fun activities. Look out for the red van and red t-shirts – and there you will find the team with their parachute, games, arts and crafts! During this summer holidays Play Out will visit Myatt’s Fields Park on 9th, 16th and 23rd August. For more information please visit http://www.playout.org.uk/ Families with children under five years will be invited to join a music workshop at the Mulberry Centre on Friday 19th August led by gypsy duo Katherine Toy on accordion and Nick Goode on violin.
They will play rousing melodies for dancing, clapping and singing together during the free session which runs from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. The workshop is funded by the Big Lottery’s Awards for All fund. On 30th July Myatt’s Fields Park volunteers and London Orchard Project picked apples and plums from one of local privet gardens and figs and mulberries from the park. Collected fruits will be used for cooking during our Harvest Festival on September 18th. Yummy!
