And at 3.15pm we’ll be judging a fancy dress competition, with prizes to win for the best costumes by under 5s, under 12s and all other ages.

We welcome any donations of spooky cakes to the café.

Everyone is welcome to come along and draw around the bandstand on Saturday 15th October 2011 when we hold our Art in the Park event in Myatt’s Fields Park.

This will include a free music performance from 1pm by Coco Xpress, who will play an infectious blend of Latin American dance rhythms including meringue and salsa, accompanied by dancers Garcia and Maria, as well as three art workshops for all ages during the afternoon.

I am writing to ask now for help:

·                    Setting up from 11am to 1pm

·                    Stewarding during the event

·                    Helping on the cake stall

·                    Clearing up from 5pm to 6pm

·                    Baking cakes for the cake stall

Also, local artists are welcome to display their work in the roundhouse. Please contact me
as soon as possible if you would like to do this and if you can help during the afternoon.

The Sleepover - A Review and Photos

10/10/2011

The first sleepover in Myatt's was a great success, with around 100
people sleeping in the park overnight. Territorial Army cadets and
officers helped people put up their tents, and then patrolled the park
overnight. Two local policemen also turned up to camp overnight (on
their weekend off), and joined the TA in their patrols. A fire
workshop by Rob from Wild Nature included learning how to build a fire
and creating a flame from scratch, and then Rob built two fires (one
in a quiet zone and one near the music) for everyone to enjoy in a
giant drum. Henri Gaobi and his African drumming troupe Kaago burst
into life as the fire was lit around 7pm and were accompanied by an
acrobat who amazed on-lookers with his amazing feats. Katherine Toy
and Nick then performed gipsy music until 9am, when people were left
to enjoy a massive fire until bedtime at 10am. A free breakfast was
served to everyone, and together with beautiful weather and a warm
sense of community spirit meant the event was warmly praised by all
who took part. Quotes include: "It was a chance in a lifetime for my
children" and "I've been waiting to do this since the 60s". We
certainly hope to do it again next year, and give a huge thank you to
the Territorial Army, the police and all the campers and volunteers
who braved the first night under canvas in Myatt's Fields Park! Thanks
also to Lambeth's Festival Fund which made it all possible.
