Designed to capture floodwaters during heavy rain and hold water through dry summers, this climate-resilient habitat will protect local frogs, newts, and dragonflies. Supported by our team and bi-weekly volunteers, it offers an engaging educational space for our community all year long!
We are excited to announce a new vision for the nature reserve at Myatt’s Fields Park!
Over recent years, our existing pond has suffered from liner damage and increasingly dry springs and summers, causing it to dry out far too early in the year.
To protect our local wildlife and adapt to a changing climate, we are transforming a 50m² area into a thriving, year-round wetland system.
What the New Wetland Will Bring:
A Year-Round Haven for Wildlife: Reliable water for frogs, newts, dragonflies, birds, and aquatic plants, even during hot summer months.
Climate Adaptation in Action: Designed to capture and store excess rainwater during heavy storms, showing how urban spaces can naturally slow and hold water rather than washing it away.
A Space for Everyone: Beautifully restored surrounding areas with seasonal interest, making it an inviting place for the community to discover aquatic life all year long.
This project is spearheaded by our Head Gardener, Courtney, a lifelong pond enthusiast, aquatic habitat designer across the UK and North America, and contributor to Practical Fishkeeping Magazine. Courtney, alongside our two assistant gardeners and our brilliant twice-weekly volunteer team, will build and care for this ecosystem for years to come.
