INDOOR SHELTER FOR LITTLE CAT CAFÉ
If you would like an indoor shelter for the café in Myatt’s, please come along to the café on Monday at 1pm and give us your support.
We have applied to the Western Riverside Environmental Fund for money to build a new shelter for the café – something requested by a large number of people in our recent survey.
No firm plans for the shelter exist at the moment but the principles are that it would be “demountable” (ie could be taken apart easily) and built in the corner of the wildlife area next to the café. Its position would mean that it would also act as an observatory for the wildlife area.
Any heating for the shelter would be as sustainable as possible and could come from a wood burning oven (also used to cook for the café). It would be designed so local people can help build it over a weekend, and with sensitivity to its beautiful setting.
The funder will want to know that this is something local people do want, and so your support will be very welcome.
THANK YOU TO SAXA AND JOSH
We are inviting local people to come along and say a big thank you to Saxa and Josh for all their hard work in the café over the past two years.
The small party will take place outside the café from 3pm to 5pm on 31st March and will include free cake for all comers.
If anyone would like to contribute to their leaving gifts (including ideas!) please drop off donations at the Old Depot (next to the greenhouse). If Rebecca, Kasia or Victoria are in, please leave donations with them, or they can be dropped into the letter box on the side of the depot.
We welcome donations of cake for the party, and also would be grateful if people could volunteer to cover staffing the café for those hours.
OPEN DAY AT GREENHOUSE AND FREE LUNCH
Join us in the greenhouse for a gardening session and free lunch during our open greenhouse day on 1st April 2012.
We’ll be clearing and planting at the greenhouse from 11.30am to 2pm, with a free lunch provided by our Food Heroes programme at 1pm. If anyone would like to help cook, please turn up at 11am.
Support for gardening activities will be provided by Streetscape, who train apprentices for horticultural work, and are currently based at the park.
There will also be a plant sale from 11.30am so come along and buy reasonably priced vegetable plants that you can grow at home.
FOOD SESSIONS AT THE PARK:
FAMILY COOK AND EAT BREAKFAST CLUB
Parents and under-fives children are invited to cook and eat together at our family cook and eat breakfast club every Friday from 9am to10.30am in the Mulberry Centre.
RETIRED PEOPLE'S LUNCH CLUB
All retired people are invited to enjoy a freshly cooked lunch every Friday at the depot meeting room from noon to 2pm. Vegetables and fruit growing in the greenhouse will be used whenever possible in the meals that are prepared.
FOOD HEROES
Everyone is invited to come along on Saturday 24th March and learn how to make pies during our Food Heroes session, which will run in the depot meeting room from 10.30am to 1pm.
Our Food Heroes programme means we employ local people to teach other local people about the food they know and love. Everyone cooks together and eats the food afterwards.
The family cook and eat, food heroes and retired people’s lunch club are all funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme and are free to all participants.
