HARVEST FESTIVAL SATURDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER
Enjoy free South American music, make chutneys, learn about bee keeping and take part in a wild food walk during our Harvest Festival event which will be held from 1pm to 5pm on 22nd September 2012.
Grupo Lokito will perform rumba and salsa music between 1pm to 2.30pm, and Sarabanda will perform salsa, son and timba music from 3pm to 4.30pm.
We’ll be making strawberry lemonade and strawberry ice cream to give away – putting the focus on the park’s heritage as a strawberry growing centre in Victorian times. You will also have the opportunity to learn about making chutney using our tomato glut from the greenhouse.
Bee Urban will give people the opportunity learn about bees – plus viewing live ones in their portable hive – as well as rolling your own wax candles.
We’ll be launching two new leaflets about the park – one about the park’s history, and one about its bio-diversity, focussing on the wildlife area. And there will be a plant stall giving people the chance to buy low cost vegetable plants grown in our greenhouse.
PLUS at an Invisible Food Street Food workshop (1 - 3pm) the focus will be on South Asian cooking from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. You are invited to come along and identify wild herbs, berries and roots in the nature area that you can turn into pakora,
sambar curry, biryani and chutney. We will also cook some dishes and people are welcome to call in for part of the workshop or stay for the whole time. Further info or if you'd like to help, contact Ceri by email or Phone 07963 446605
The strawberry and chutney food workshops are funded by the Big Lottery Fund's Local Food scheme, and the music is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
HELP - we would very much appreciate help during the day - setting up from 10am to 1pm, volunteering in the cafe, helping on stalls from 1pm to 5pm and clearing away from 5pm to 6pm. We would love people to make cake for the cafe to meet the increased demand during an event. Helpers are very welcome to choose their favourite activity and the times that suit them best. Please contact Victoria Sherwin by email as soon as possible if you can help.
