CELEBRITY CHEF TAKES THE RHUBARB CHALLENGE AT MYATT’S!
River Cottage Head Chef Gill Meller will pit his kitchen skills against our finest neighbourhood cooks, when he enters the “best rhubarb dish” competition at our fair and fun day on 22nd June 2013.
The competition will take centre stage in our baking contest which will encourage local people to enter their best rhubarb dish, lemon drizzle, ginger, fruit and chocolate cakes.
The rhubarb contest will be filmed as part of this year’s River Cottage series, focusing on how fruit can inform everything we cook. Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall and his friends are travelling the country finding the finest fruit, the greatest fruit heroes and cooking the tastiest of dishes.
Myatt’s has been picked because of its heritage – Mr Myatt, the market gardener who farmed the land before the park was built in 1889, introduced rhubarb to England as a sweet dish.
The River Cottage team will film the park’s greenhouse where rhubarb is being grown by volunteers, and record the cooking challenge during the fair. To enter this or the general baking competition (see poster attached), bring your goods along to the marquee next to the café by 1pm. Judging will be at 2pm.
Myatt’s Fields Park fair and family fun day, which runs from 11am to 6pm, will also feature a football competition, talent contest, live music and DJs, community stalls, art fair, plant sale and a small children’s fairground. The fair is being organised by Myatt’s Fields Park Project in partnership with the Cherry Tree Trust.
