HELP FOR LOCAL FOOD GROWING PROJECTS
Myatt’s Fields Park is offering to support the development of ten local food growing projects in 2013-14.
The park, which has a large greenhouse and a newly appointed community gardener (Fabrice Boltho), is offering the following help to each project:
* Eight half-day sessions of horticultural training and support, delivered either at the projects’ sites or at Myatt’s greenhouse
* The opportunity to start seedlings off in the park greenhouse
* 12 horticulture training days at Myatt’s Fields Park greenhouse
* A small grant of £250 to buy resources
The scheme is funded by City Bridge Trust, the City of London Corporation’s Charity, under its Growing Localities programme.
The closing date for applications is Monday 20th May 2013.

FOOD SESSIONS AT THE PARK
Our Local Food funding will end on 15th May 2013. We’ve had two great years learning about different foods, making new friendships and meeting a lot of new people.
At present, the parents’ breakfast club, retired people’s lunch and food heroes will not have funding to continue in their current format.
However, there is good news:
We will have a small amount left over from the Local Food grant so we can continue to run the retired people’s lunch until this money runs out. We are also seeking funding to continue to run the retired people’s lunch from July 2013 – June 2014. We will know about the results of this funding application around June 2013.
If any parents would be interested in volunteering to run the Friday morning sessions, we will provide you with food safety training and support you to do this.
We have funding to run a new World Food project from May 2013. This will include working with local people to document the food they eat and the stories behind these foods. We will learn about the history of foods from the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Europe and will explore how they have influenced each other. We’ll create a world map showing the stories behind the food we eat today and run lots of workshops (maybe in the same way as food heroes) to explore all of this.
This project could also include workshops targeted to a range of people eg young parents, children and teenagers. The food history project will be run by a board of local people, who will help us design the workshops and activities.
FOOD HEROES
Everyone is welcome to come along from 11am on Saturday (11th May) and learn how to make Moroccan/Spanish food.
The sessions are open to everyone – come along and help cook, or just turn up and eat at noon if you want to. You don’t need to be an expert cook, we design the sessions so people can just roll up their sleeves and help with chopping, stirring and eating!
FAMILY COOK AND EAT BREAKFAST CLUB
The family cook and eat breakfast club this Friday (May 10th) will meet from 9am in the Mulberry Centre. The family cook and eat sessions allow children and adults to cook and eat together. Everyone welcome.
RETIRED PEOPLE'S LUNCH CLUB
Retired people are welcome to come and eat lunch made with vegetables and fruit from the greenhouse at the depot from noon this Friday. These sessions are informal and friendly and everyone is welcome.
The food sessions are funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme.
